Under the influence of the epidemic, the supply chain crisis of global shipping focuses on the shortage of stevedores, port congestion, mismatch between supply and demand of containers and so on. 

For example, after the gradual easing of the epidemic in New Zealand, there has been a surge in domestic demand for imported goods, resulting in a significant increase in the handling capacity of the port of Auckland, New Zealand, but there is a serious shortage of stevedores at the port. To make matters worse, 15% of the world's seafarers are from India, and the worsening epidemic in India has led some ports to impose restrictions on Indian crew and ships.

Affected by the global shipping supply chain crisis, recently, the world's major shipping companies have issued a new round of price increases. Since June 1, Hebrot, Dafei and Mediterranean Shipping have all raised the fees of routes from East Asia to North America. 

Among them, Hebron raised the comprehensive rate for eastbound routes from East Asia to the United States and Canada, the surcharge (GRI), increased by US $960-1200 per box; Dafei adjusted the GRI, of its routes from Asian ports to the United States and Canada to US $90-1600 per box; and Mediterranean Shipping raised the GRI, of its routes from Asia to the United States to US $800-1266 per box. 

On the other hand, Wanhai Shipping has already raised the freight charges for exports from China to Asia from May 22, with an increase of US $300 to US $600 per carton. 

Maersk, the world's largest container shipping company, predicts that supply chain bottlenecks and container shortages in 2021 will continue into the fourth quarter before returning to normal. Sespan, the world's largest independent container shipowner, believes that the boom in the container market may continue until 2023-2024; since last year, Sespan has frantically ordered 37 ships, and these new ships are expected to be delivered between the second half of 2023 and the middle of 2024. 

At present, 90% of the world's trade and transportation is done by sea, and more than 40 million containers are operated worldwide. However, the detention of containers overseas has directly led to the "difficulty of obtaining a box" at home. The prices of routes exported to Europe, the United States and the Middle East have risen three or four times, attracting "middlemen" to intervene and start the price.
