Ceramic Body Binder Technical Brief Body Reinforcement / Strength Enhancement Solution

📄 Document ID: BND-2026-002
1. Product Overview OVERVIEW

1.1 Ceramic Body Binder is a functional additive designed to enhance the mechanical strength of ceramic green bodies. By strengthening inter-particle bonding, it significantly improves both green and fired body strength, effectively reducing breakage, edge chipping and delamination at various production stages.

1.2 Goway offers two major product series — Organic and Inorganic:

  • Organic Series: FG-ZM01A (High-Activity, Active Ingredient 95–98%), FG-ZM01D (Standard, Active Ingredient 90–95%)
  • Inorganic Series: FG-302 (Standard), FG-303 (High-Silica)

1.3 The products increase dry strength by 10%–30% without affecting slurry flowability, while effectively reducing the amount of high-quality clay in the formulation, lowering raw material costs.

0.1%–0.2% Recommended Dosage

2. Technical Principles MECHANISM

2.1 Organic Series — Polymer Film Bonding (FG-ZM01A / FG-ZM01D)

  • Polymer precipitates during drying, forming a continuous film on particle surfaces
  • The film "welds" particles together, creating a tough bonding network that significantly enhances body strength
  • Completely decomposes during firing (L.O.I. 50–55%), leaving no inorganic residue
  • Does not affect fired body color — suitable for white bodies and color-sensitive formulations

2.2 Inorganic Series — Mineral Filling + Micro-Gelation Bonding (FG-302 / FG-303)

  • Fine inorganic mineral powders fill inter-particle voids, increasing effective contact area
  • Form weak cementitious bonds during drying, enhancing initial green strength
  • Fuse with the body during firing, becoming part of the ceramic matrix
  • Suitable for red bodies and high-volume standard products — economical

2.3 Effect on Slurry Flowability

Goway binders are specially surface-treated and do not affect slurry flowability at recommended dosages. Measured slurry flow increases by 5–10 seconds (flow cup method), ensuring stable production processes.

3. Product Series & Specifications SPECIFICATIONS

4. Core Functions FUNCTIONS
  • 4.1 Significant Strength Enhancement — Dry strength increased by 10%–30%, effectively resisting mechanical stresses during handling, drying and glazing
  • 4.2 Reduced Breakage at All Stages — Significantly reduces breakage, edge chipping and delamination during pressing, demolding, drying, handling and glazing
  • 4.3 Reduced High-Quality Clay Usage — Can reduce high-quality clay content by 5%–15% without compromising body strength
  • 4.4 No Effect on Slurry Flowability — Slurry flow increases by 5–10 seconds (flow cup method), ensuring process stability
  • 4.5 Improved Product Quality — Reduces internal micro-cracks, enhances fired mechanical strength and surface quality
  • 4.6 Wide Applicability — Suitable for wall/floor tiles, tableware, sanitaryware, refractories and more
5. Organic vs Inorganic Comparison COMPARISON

🧪 Organic Series

  • Mechanism: Polymer film formation
  • Strength Increase: High (20–30%)
  • Firing Residue: None (fully decomposed)
  • Color Impact: None, suitable for white bodies
  • Applications: White bodies, premium products
  • Cost Position: Higher
  • Representative Grades: FG-ZM01A / FG-ZM01D

🧱 Inorganic Series

  • Mechanism: Mineral filling + micro-gelation
  • Strength Increase: Moderate (10–20%)
  • Firing Residue: Yes (fuses with body)
  • Color Impact: Fe₂O₃ 1–2%, suitable for red bodies
  • Applications: Red bodies, high-volume standard products
  • Cost Position: Economical
  • Representative Grades: FG-302 / FG-303
💡 Selection Tips: White bodies, premium products → prioritize Organic Series. Red bodies, high-volume standard products → prioritize Inorganic Series. Organic + Inorganic combination (e.g., 70% Organic + 30% Inorganic) can also be used to balance performance and cost.
6. Application Scenarios APPLICATIONS

6.1 Ceramic Bodies

Added to body formulations to significantly improve green and dry strength, reducing breakage during pressing, demolding and handling. Suitable for wall/floor tiles, tableware, sanitaryware and more.

6.2 Refractory Materials

Enhances cold strength of refractory bricks, kiln furniture and other products, reducing cracking and breakage during handling and drying.

6.3 Reduced High-Quality Clay Usage

Can replace 5%–15% of high-quality clay without compromising body strength, reducing formulation costs — especially valuable in regions with limited clay resources.

6.4 Improved Processing Performance

Enhances impact resistance and abrasion resistance, reducing secondary breakage during subsequent glazing, printing and other processes.

7. Selection Guide SELECTION
🔹 FG-ZM01A Organic High-Activity Active ingredient 95–98%, highest strength enhancement. Ideal for premium white bodies, thin large-format slabs and products with extreme strength requirements.
🔹 FG-ZM01D Organic Standard Active ingredient 90–95%, excellent cost-performance. Suitable for most conventional ceramic bodies, balancing performance and cost.
🔹 FG-303 Inorganic High-Silica SiO₂ 65–70%, Al₂O₃ 14–16%. Suitable for red bodies, high-volume standard products — economical.
🔹 FG-302 Inorganic Standard SiO₂ 60–65%, Al₂O₃ 13–15%. Suitable for cost-sensitive formulations with moderate color requirements.
💡 Combination Suggestion: Organic and inorganic series can be combined in ratios such as 7:3 or 6:4. Determine the optimal ratio through laboratory gradient trials to achieve performance + cost dual optimization.
